Where we channel our attention shapes who we are. Whether conscious or unconscious, attention is always a choice.
A parent putting down the phone to sit with a child for an unhurried conversation. A leader setting aside their own agenda to sense how their people truly are. A creator pausing between works, listening for what wants to emerge next.
Simone Weil called attention “the rarest and purest form of generosity.” She saw it as more than focus — it was the act of suspending our own thoughts, ready to receive what is before us.
Next time you have the chance, take a pause and notice where your attention rests. Is your mind already running toward the next task, or is it here — with the person before you, or the world you are in?
The choice is yours.
